GENERAL LINGUISTICS

This is a structured course which implies that the Teaching-Learning thecnique to be applied in this subject is susceptible to be combined with other Teaching-Learning thecniques like Seminars, Workshops and Projects. This course is a pre-requisite of the course that follows it in the next level: Applied Linguistics. This means that the General Linguistics course guides the learners or students to get a solid base in managing the proper concepts of Linguistics with the purpose to make that the student achieve a critical thought in regards to the analysis in this area of the knowledge with the objective to direct him o her to get a clear vision about the Language as a social communication system.

The main aim of this course is to familiarize the students with the practical, theoretical and scientific study of the Language. Where the language is the main part in the expression and communication of thoughts and behaviors inherent to an individual in his or her inner monologue or in the social interactions among individuals that belong to a society.

Having as a basis the influence that the language has as the communication media among individuals and groups, due to the fact that it is used in all the areas and environments in which all the human beings perform. All of this, in order to cover the need of the Mankind to express thoughts and behaviors through the use of Languages and/or dialects in which have been established parameters that have been fixed by the social conventions of each gruop of individuals in which the languages have been systematized as organized codes in all their varieties and ways and most of the time, those codes have been delimited by Geografical and Groups areas.

The course of General Linguistics has 5 (five) general objectives that divide the subjects of study in five main units.

PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY I

PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY I

The structured course Phonetics and Phonology I aims to conduct the students to accomplish the required knowledge in order to analize the speech through Structural Phonology and its application in Teaching English to students of other Languages (TESOL). Mainly, analizing the skills Speaking-Listening and specially centered in the fact that implies the mechanism in which the Speech sounds are produced by the Human Beings in relation to their articulation through the organs of the speech and the acoustic of the resultant sounds and finally, the message emited through the speech process and how that message is listened by the hearer or the message receiver.

The two main branches of Phonetics and Phonology are Structural and Generative Phonetics and Phonology. The course Phonetics and Phonology I is mainly dedicated to study and analize the speech through Structural Phonology while the course that follows this one; Phonetics and Phonology II studies and analizes the speech through Generative Phonetics and Phonology to apply the obtained knowledge in specifical cases of teaching the English Language.

El curso estructurado de Fonética y Fonología I, tiene como objetivo general conducir a los participantes del mismo a lograr el conocimiento requerido para el análisis del lenguaje a través de la Fonología Estructural y su aplicación en la docencia del idioma Inglés. Analizando principalmente las destrezas Hablar-Escuchar y especialmente el hecho de como se produce el “habla” en los seres humanos en relación a su articulación en y a través del aparato fonador, la acústica de los sonidos producidos, el mensaje emitido a través de éste proceso y cómo dicho mensaje es escuchado por el interlocutor.

Partiendo de la base de que las dos grandes áreas de la Fonología y la Fonética son la Fonética y la Fonología Estructural y la Fónetica y la Fonología Generativa. El curso de Fonética y Fonología del Inglés I se dedica principalmente al estudio y análisis a través de la Fonología Estructural, mientras que el curso del cual es prelación: Fonética y Fonología del Inglés II se dedica al estudio y análisis del lenguaje a través de la Fonética y la Fonología Generativa y su aplicación en casos específicos del ejercicio de la docencia en Idioma Inglés.

El curso de Fonética y Fonología del Inglés I está comprendido por 5 Objetivos terminales que delimitan al curso en 5 Unidades Curriculares.

Unidad I. Introducción a la Fonética. Fonética y ramas de la Fonética. Fisiología y órganos del habla. Articulación de los segmentos del habla. Puntos y maneras de articulación. Fonología. Fonética y Fonología. Pares mínimos. Criterios para clasificar sonidos como miembros del mísmo fonema. Los fonemas consonantes del inglés y del castellano. Transcripción.

Unidad II. Las Consonantes; Plosivos. Fricativos. Africativos. Nasales. Laterales. Aproximante retroflexo. Semivocales. Procesos fonológicos.

Unidad III. Las Vocales. Clasificación de los sonidos vocales. Vocales cardinales. Transcripción de los sonidos vocales. Comparación de los sistemas para transcribir sonidos vocales. Descripción articulatoria de los sonidos vocales en inglés. Vocales frontales. Vocales posteriores. Vocales centrales. Diptongos: Clasificación de los diptongos. Descripción de los diptongos frontales, posteriores y centrales.

Unidad VI. La sílaba. Realidad psicológica de la sílaba. Producción y reconocimiento de las sílabas. Segmentos silábicos. Estructuras silábicas. Restricciones de las estructuras silábicas.

Unidad V. Suprasegmentales. Acentuación. Acentuación prosódica de palabras en Inglés. Acentuación de frases. Entonación.

• Publicación en el blog de la descripción de los sonidos consonantes según su punto, manera de articulación y su transcripción. 0.50p = 10%

• Test de comprobación de conocimientos sobre los sonidos consonantes y los procesos fonológicos. 0,50p = 10%

Unidad III

• Publicación en el blog de la clasificación de los sonidos vocales y diptongos. 0.5p = 10%

• Publicación en el blog sobre la sílabas su estuctura, su producción y su reconocimiento sus partes. 0.5p = 10%

• Publicación en el blog sobre los suprasegmentales, acentuación de palabras y frases, entonación. 0.25p = 5%

This is a structured course and the fact of being structured implies that the Teaching-Learning thecnique that is going to be applied is susceptible to combine Seminars, Workshops and Projects. This course is a pre-requisite of the course that follows it: Applied Linguistics. This means that the General Linguistics course conducts the learners or students to get a solid base in managing the proper concepts of Linguistics with the purpose to make that each student achieve a real critical thought in regards to the analysis in this branch of knowledge with the objective to direct him o her to get a clear vision about Language as a social communication system.

Having as a basis the influence that the language has as the communication system used among individuals and groups and due to the fact that it is used in all the areas and environments in which all the human beings perform, those realities,  let us see the importance of this course in the scientific study and the analysis of all that implies the expression of thoughts and behaviors through the use of Languages and/or dialects by the Mankind. 

Languages have been established with certain parameters that have been fixed with the implicit  agreement ocurred in social conventions made by each group of individuals that use languages as  systems of communication. The languages in all their varieties and ways have been systematized as organized codes and most of the time, those codes have been delimited by Geografical regions and the customs practiced by the groups that develop their lives in them.

The course of General Linguistics has 5 (five) general objectives that divide the subjects of study in five main units.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

I. To identify Linguistics as a Scientific and Humanistic discipline in its evolutive process through the History of the Mankind; accomplishing the aim to define with exactitude Modern Linguistics.

II. To establish the relationship between Language and Society in conjuction with the definitions of  form and meaning in all the different linguistical-theoretical perspectives.

III. To describe the most important characteristics of the Human Language as a communication and identification system in conjuction with the linguistical sub-systems which are: Phonetics, Phonology, Sintax, Semantics and Pragmatics in arrangement with the linguistical units of analysis.

IV. To identify and interpreting the problems related with the semantic plan through the study of some Theories of this discipline.

V. To discriminate among the different contributions to the Modern Linguistics by the nowadays Linguists in order to identify the linguistical problems that have arisen in regards of the development of a Linguistic Theory.

LINGÜÍSTICA GENERAL. Es un curso estructurado, lo que implica que la técnica de aprendizaje a emplear en el mismo, es suceptible de ser combinada con otras técnicas de aprendizaje tales como seminarios, talleres y proyectos. Este curso es prelación del curso de Lingüística Aplicada, por lo tanto se conduce al o la participante a tener bases sólidas en el manejo de conceptos lingüísticos, en el logro de un analísis crítico en cuanto a ésta área del conocimiento, llevandolo/a al poseer al final del curso una visión clara del lenguaje como sistema de comunicación social.



La asignatura Lingüística General tiene como propósito el familiarizar al o la participante con el estudio científico y el analísis teórico-práctico del lenguaje humano.



Siendo el lenguaje la parte primordial en la expresión y comunicación de pensamientos y conductas, tanto individuales como en la interacción social o entre individuos.

Al tomar como basamento la influencia que ejerce el lenguaje como medio de comunicación en todas las áreas en que los seres humanos se desempeñan dentro del entorno que los rodea para cubrir así las necesidades de expresión, al hacer uso de lenguas, idiomas y dialectos dentro de los parámetros establecidos por las convenciones sociales que han los fijado como códigos sistemáticamente organizados en formas de lenguaje, dentro de todas sus formas y variantes delimitadas generalmente por áreas geográfricas-grupales.


El curso de Lingüística General está comprendido por 5 (cinco) objetivos generales que delimitan al mismo, en cinco unidades curriculares.

OBJETIVOS GENERALES


1.-Identificar la Lingüística como disciplina cientifica-humanística en su proceso evolutivo a través de la historia, logrando así definir con propiedad la Lingüística Moderna.



2.-Establecer la relación entre el lenguaje y la sociedad, conjuntamente con la forma y el significado en distintas perspectivas lingüístico-teóricas.



3.-Describir las características mas resaltantes del lenguaje humano, como sistema de comunicacción y de identificación conjuntamente con los subsistemas lingüísticos: Fonológico, sintáctico y semántico, conjuntamente con las unidades lingüísticas de analísis.



4.-Identificar e interpretar la problemática relacionada con el plan semántico a través del estudio de varias teorías de esta disciplina.



5.-Discriminar entre los distintos aportes a la lingüística moderna e identificar la problemática de los mismos para los fines de desarrollo de una teoría lingüística.

Trabajo de investigación documental Unidad I: Analizar el Lenguaje Humano desde diferentes perspectivas:

1.- Lenguaje como propiedad específica de la especie humana. Filogénesis, desde el punto de vista evolutivo partiendo de los primates hasta el Homo Sapiens-Sapiens

2.- Capacidades humanas de comunicación. Simbolismo en el habla y en la representación escrita o gráfica. Teoría de la Comunicación.

3.- Multideterminaciones conductuales e interacciones con el entorno, aspecto Socio-Histórico-Cultural (antropológico-histórico-folklorico) en la adquisición y transmisión del lenguaje.
