This is a structured course and the fact of being structured implies that the Teaching-Learning thecnique that is going to be applied is susceptible to combine Seminars, Workshops and Projects.
This course is a pre-requisite of the course that follows it: Applied Linguistics. This means that the General Linguistics course conducts the learners or students to get a solid base in managing the proper concepts of Linguistics with the purpose to make that each student achieve a real critical thought in regards to the analysis in this branch of knowledge with the objective to direct him o her to get a clear vision about Language as a social communication system.
The main aim of this course is to familiarize the students with the practical, theoretical and scientific study of the Language. Where the language is the channel to express and communicate thoughts and behaviors which are inherent to an individual, in his or her inner monologue or in social interactions among individuals that belong to a society.
Having as a basis the influence that the language has as the communication system used among individuals and groups and due to the fact that it is used in all the areas and environments in which all the human beings perform, those realities, let us see the importance of this course in the scientific study and the analysis of all that implies the expression of thoughts and behaviors through the use of Languages and/or dialects by the Mankind.
Languages have been established with certain parameters that have been fixed with the implicit agreement ocurred in social conventions made by each group of individuals that use languages as systems of communication. The languages in all their varieties and ways have been systematized as organized codes and most of the time, those codes have been delimited by Geografical regions and the customs practiced by the groups that develop their lives in them.
The course of General Linguistics has 5 (five) general objectives that divide the subjects of study in five main units.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
I. To identify Linguistics as a Scientific and Humanistic discipline in its evolutive process through the History of the Mankind; accomplishing the aim to define with exactitude Modern Linguistics.
II. To establish the relationship between Language and Society in conjuction with the definitions of form and meaning in all the different linguistical-theoretical perspectives.
III. To describe the most important characteristics of the Human Language as a communication and identification system in conjuction with the linguistical sub-systems which are: Phonetics, Phonology, Sintax, Semantics and Pragmatics in arrangement with the linguistical units of analysis.
IV. To identify and interpreting the problems related with the semantic plan through the study of some Theories of this discipline.
V. To discriminate among the different contributions to the Modern Linguistics by the nowadays Linguists in order to identify the linguistical problems that have arisen in regards of the development of a Linguistic Theory.

LINGÜÍSTICA GENERAL.
Es un curso estructurado, lo que implica que la técnica de aprendizaje a emplear en el mismo, es suceptible de ser combinada con otras técnicas de aprendizaje tales como seminarios, talleres y proyectos. Este curso es prelación del curso de Lingüística Aplicada, por lo tanto se conduce al o la participante a tener bases sólidas en el manejo de conceptos lingüísticos, en el logro de un análisis crítico en cuanto a ésta área del conocimiento, llevándolo/a al poseer al final del curso una visión clara del lenguaje como sistema de comunicación social.
El curso Lingüística General tiene como propósito el familiarizar al o la participante con el estudio científico y el análisis teórico-práctico del lenguaje humano.
Siendo el lenguaje la parte primordial en la expresión y comunicación de pensamientos y conductas, tanto individuales como en la interacción social o entre individuos.
Al tomar como basamento la influencia que ejerce el lenguaje como medio de comunicación en todas las áreas en que los seres humanos se desempeñan dentro del entorno que los rodea para cubrir así las necesidades de expresión, al hacer uso de lenguas, idiomas y dialectos dentro de los parámetros establecidos por las convenciones sociales que han los fijado como códigos sistemáticamente organizados en formas de lenguaje, dentro de todas sus formas y variantes delimitadas generalmente por áreas geográfricas-grupales.
El curso de Lingüística General está comprendido por 5 (cinco) objetivos generales que delimitan al mismo, en cinco unidades curriculares.
OBJETIVOS GENERALES
1.-Identificar la Lingüística como disciplina cientifica-humanística en su proceso evolutivo a través de la historia, logrando así definir con propiedad la Lingüística Moderna.
2.-Establecer la relación entre el lenguaje y la sociedad, conjuntamente con la forma y el significado en distintas perspectivas lingüístico-teóricas.
3.-Describir las características mas resaltantes del lenguaje humano, como sistema de comunicación y de identificación conjuntamente con los subsistemas lingüísticos: Fonológico, sintáctico y semántico, conjuntamente con las unidades lingüísticas de análisis.
4.-Identificar e interpretar la problemática relacionada con el plan semántico a través del estudio de varias teorías de esta disciplina.
5.-Discriminar entre los distintos aportes a la lingüística moderna e identificar la problemática de los mismos para los fines de desarrollo de una teoría lingüística.

Trabajo de investigación documental Unidad I: Analizar el Lenguaje Humano desde diferentes perspectivas:
1.- Lenguaje como propiedad específica de la especie humana. Filogénesis, desde el punto de vista evolutivo partiendo de los primates hasta el Homo Sapiens-Sapiens
2.- Capacidades humanas de comunicación. Simbolismo en el habla y en la representación escrita o gráfica. Teoría de la Comunicación.
3.- Multideterminaciones conductuales e interacciones con el entorno, aspecto Socio-Histórico-Cultural (antropológico-histórico-folklorico) en la adquisición y transmisión del lenguaje.
4.-Aspecto biológico-anatómico del lenguaje en relación con el cerebro: Corteza cerebral, hemisferios cerebrales, lóbulos, surcos, cortex, área de Broca (producción del lenguaje) y área de Wernicke (comprensión del lenguaje) Patologías y trastornos del Lenguaje.
5.- Lengua y habla (Langue and parole), sistema de signos, relación entre la lengua y el pensamiento, diferencia entre lengua y lenguaje.
